In the book of Joel, God offers the people of Judah an opportunity to turn to Him despite their past sins and the judgement before them. He does this because of His great love. Even now, God offers us a similar opportunity. His love for us is great and He can change our hearts to desire Him more than anything else in this world. Is that your heart’s desire today?

David started out as a great king. He led the people with kindness and discernment, and he put all of his trust in the Lord. But none of that lasted. Like all of us, David was unable to live up the perfect Law of God, and his kingship was eventually tarnished by sin. No one ever thinks that sin will completely destroy their life. Sin usually starts out small, but it continues to grow until one day it has control over us and we find ourselves enslaved by it. Disobeying God in some small way today may not seem like a big deal, but it will eventually lead us to a destination we never intended to go! We must be alert to the small areas of disobedience in our life, and never be content to let them go unchecked.

The most famous mountain in the world is Mt. Everest. People are drawn to it from all over the world, and more than 300 of them have died trying to reach the summit. But there is another hill just outside Jerusalem called the place of the skull or the hill of death. That is where Jesus died for the sins of the world, and in order to be saved, you do not have to climb that hill… all you need to do is bow at His feet and receive Him as your Savior.

Every religion around the world has a list of different things a person has to do in order to get to heaven. Some have to pray a certain number of times every day, others have to chant mantras, while others have to perform a lifetime of good works. And yet, none of those things can make us right with God. How good do you have to be for God to let you into heaven? Well actually, you have to be absolutely perfect! That’s really bad news for all of us. Leviticus shows us the long list of standards that God requires, but it also shows us that Jesus met all those requirements on our behalf, so now all we have to do is believe on Him and rest in His finished work, and that’s the best news we could ever hear!

Imagine being brought to trial for committing a horrible crime, and being given the death penalty. Then suddenly, someone jumps up and says they want to die in your place. The judge agrees, but orders you to perform the execution! Could you do it? In a sense, that’s exactly what we did to Jesus. It was our sin that put Him to death and made Him suffer God’s judgement! How often do we remember just how much He loves us that He would willingly die so that we could live?

Are you going to heaven when you die? How do you know that for sure? Do you think it’s because you’ve been a good person, or given money to the church, or because your parents were Christians? The truth is, none of those things will get you to heaven. There is only one way, and that is through the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ who gave His life as the required payment for sin. God’s judgement for sin is coming, and the only way you will be saved from that judgement is if you have applied the blood to your life.

Jesus greatly anticipated His last Passover meal with His disciples. The Passover meal itself was to remember something very important, and it was in this setting that Jesus announced to His disciples the New Covenant, one to replace the old, a covenant that would be confirmed with His own blood.
