Today the name of God has become a common curse word. Even Christians are guilty of treating God casually. The problem is, we have lost the fear of God because we have forgotten who it is we’re dealing with. God is not the old man in the sky. He is a consuming fire who dwells in unapproachable light. There is a half-built highway bridge in Cape Town, South Africa that comes to an abrupt end and hangs perilously in midair. Life is busy. In the rush of work, school, raising children, paying bills, making plans… when is the last time you thought about heaven? It is so easy for us to get swamped under the demands and pursuits of this life, that all our attention and energy becomes focused entirely on earthly things. As followers of Christ, we must intentionally allow the reality of eternity to impact the way we live our lives today. How do you picture God? Is He an old man with a long white beard trying to keep up with everything in the universe?
