“be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18) is to be controlled by the Holy Spirit. This is a present continuous action and requires a believer to be (a) daily yielded to God, (b) daily in repentance with confession with godly sorrow, (c) daily allowing the word of God to richly indwell the inner man. Being controlled by the Holy Spirit empowers a believer (a) daily in spiritual battle (Spirit versus flesh) and, (b) daily in living out the person and character and conduct of Christ and in being obedient to the will of God.
Turning Our Hearts Back to God
We were created to worship God and bring Him glory. However, sometimes we lose sight of that and choose instead to put other things in the place of the love, devotion and worship that belong to Him alone. When that happens we are, in a very real sense, worshiping other gods on the altar of our heart. God will use any means necessary to destroy those idols and turn our hearts back to Him. Are there any areas of your heart that need to be given back completely to God?
