The final sermon in this series is a warning to let you know the reality of what you will face if you do step out and live a life of holy ambition. Whenever we step out to follow God, we can expect to face attacks from the enemy, just as Nehemiah did. We will be criticized and ridiculed, we will face discouragement and doubt, and we must determine beforehand that we are going to have a courageous soul or we will cave in under the opposition. Are you going to finish what God has called you to, despite the difficulties?

The High Cost of Cheap Treasure

Imagine a grown man on a beach bragging about his towering sandcastle, only to watch the rising tide wash it all away. We’d call that foolish, yet we often live the same way—investing ourselves into accumulating earthly treasures as if they’re permanent. Jesus warns us about the danger of placing high value on things that will not last. More importantly, He reveals the truth that whatever we treasure most will capture our hearts and direct our lives. It’s fine to have possessions, but ask yourself: are you building sandcastles, or investing in the kingdom that will never end?

Children of Light: Peace vs. Trouble

From the very beginning of creation, God desired to bring forth life out of darkness, so He said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. This separation is representative of two opposing kingdoms; one to which His children belong, and one to which His enemies belong. Scripture tells us that God is light, and there is no darkness in Him, and those who belong to Him are children of light. How to Meet God’s Impossible Standard

It’s tempting to measure our spiritual life by external standards like church attendance, Bible reading, avoiding major sins, and then feel good about the comparison. But Jesus dismantles this scorecard approach by revealing that the true gauge lies much deeper. This means no one can achieve the perfection God requires, but the good news is that Christ has already fulfilled every requirement and offers to credit His flawless record to us! Romans 6 says the old you, the one enslaved to sin, had to die. And in Christ, that’s exactly what happened. When He was nailed to the cross and buried in the tomb, your old self died with Him. But you were also raised with Him into a new life, free to walk in His resurrection power. Christ now lives in you, equipping you with strength and victory that are not your own. That’s what baptism proclaims: not a cleaned-up version of who you were, but a new creation, born again, alive in Christ!
